Is dA kidding? This isn't 'Fair' at all, I don't want and/or need to see
desktop screenshots or crude animations such as
Your Mom [which has been taken down, thus the screenshot] in the popular slot of the frontpage!
Even if the former is from

, who is actually a good artist! But as she herself has said; she would rather get attention for her other artwork, not her current desktop!
So, I signed the
Petition asking dA to reconsider there "FairExposure" idea. And this is what I put in my comment:
The whole point of the popular category is to see the best that DA artists have to offer, not stupid, crass, animations with a stick figure defiling 'your mom' text (as seen on the frontpage at 1:07 PM on Feb, 12, 2008). Before the popular category might have shown a lot of fanart, but it was -well done- fanart with artists that, more often than not, deserved some sort of admiration. Now this system gets to be abused by anyone who decides that they want to be an attention whore without working for it. Since when do we as a society praise the Paris Hiltons of the world? I would rather see work from a person that took a couple hours trying to get just the right photograph instead of seeing some grainy picture of themselves taken with a mobile. Last time I checked this website wasn't MySpace. That being said, the idea of FairExposure isn't a bad one, but perhaps it should have a separate slot. And now that I think about it, why can't they add a slot to the frontpage that shows a different category each week? Or is it a sacrilege to give the people who don't subscribe five or six slots? I mean, I get that one can customize said slots but I bet that most don't because they actually like having "Newest", "Popular", "Prints", and "Daily Deviations" on their frontpage. And those with subsciptions get twenty slots so really, I don't see the problem.
Hopefully dA changes their mind about this. If not, I might just have to customize the popular slot off my page because a lot of the 'artwork' that has shown up since the change isn't worth it, to tell the truth.
